Hello and welcome to Sylvana Artworks! Thank you for taking a moment of your time to browse my latest works. All of the artwork is an original and made by me, Sylvana. I use a heavily grogged clay made for sculpture and handcrafting. This type of clay allows me to form and sculpt the clay into these unique pieces. The stains and glazes I incorporate create the effects of matt color against glossy color. This combination allows me to bring out the earth tones which highlight the sculpture and shadowing.
As you can see I love texture and use various techniques of juxtaposed texture for a mystical yet natural look. I believe design, composition and flow are the basis of my work. When I am creating a piece I feel like the clay is speaking to me and inspiring these creations of nature. For this reason I do not use a wheel because my work only comes to me through handcrafting and sculpting. Often I am asked, “How did you come up with that piece?” My answer is always, “I had an idea and the clay guided me.” My sculptures are never exactly as I intended and this excites me when creating my artwork.
I have a wide variety of artwork and I am constantly incorporating new ideas. Currently I am showing my “Renaissance Masks,” which have become a huge hit with collectors and interior designers. I also have a new line of “Geode Bowls” also known as “Vanity Bowls.” These clay bowls are my reflections of geodes and I use texture, stains, and glazes to create this beautiful effect. These bowls come in many sizes and shapes which are decorative or functional. My wall pieces are reliefs and also come in many sizes and shapes. They are sculpted and I use a variety of hand built tiles to create the desired shadowing and effect. Last but not least I have a line of free standing sculptures that would accommodate any area in your room. I build figurative sculptures such as torsos and more ambiguous pieces which intrigue the mind and soul.
